Electricity regulation: Enugu commission fires back at NERC 29th July 2025

The Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission has fired back at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, stressing that NERC has no power to regulate power distribution.

In a statement on Monday, the EERC responded to a statement by the federal power regulator that stated that state governments had no jurisdiction over the national grid and over electric power stations established under federal laws or operating under licences it issued.

NERC had issued the statement following the reduction of the Band A tariff from N209 per kilowatt-hour to N160/kWh by EERC. The national power regulator advised state governments to reflect the wholesale costs in tariffs or be ready to pay subsidies for any tariff shortfa
